Kim Sungyong, Artistic Director of the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC), invites professional dance artists and students to immerse themselves in developing their own movements through his signature choreographic methodology.
In a career spanning 20 years, Kim has choreographed nearly 150 works. Among these are a remarkable body of work created during his five-year tenure as resident choreographer at Daegu City Dance Company, which shaped the development of Process Init.
Departing from conventional choreographic approaches, this method focuses on creating movement from “sense and reaction”. Dancers begin by listening to their bodies, generating “cell movements” based on personal instincts and history. By observing others’ cell movements, dancers adapt and transform them into their own, laying the foundation of an ensemble. Process Init encourages dancers to cultivate an authentic, individual style while organically weaving collective influences into a cohesive whole.
Led by Kim and assisted by KNCDC dancers Lee Kyungyub and Kim Yoonmee (performers of Jungle), the workshop guides participants through an immersive movement exploration. It is open to professional dancers and dance students aged 17 or above.
